Thank you so much Mike, I appreciate what you say. We are on the same page with "...real relationship with someone who is still alive…"

Brought up in a Catholic elementary school, I still have memories of the Bible. And in high school I stopped going to church but then in college I innocently or independently opened my heart to Jesus Christ. So I did not pursue any Bible study, fellowship, or Billy Graham middlemen and therefore grew to know Jesus as the Way and the Truth and the Light of God through only Jesus Himself.

To me Christians are superficially fond of the name Jesus Christ instead of caring who He was or what His name represents, namely the Light of God, which is formless. I agree with Christianity that Jesus is the only way to heaven, but the way is not the name. The way is the Light of God, which being omnipresent can take anyone to heaven regardless if the name Jesus is attached or not. Superficiality has caused many problems in Christianity like the unmitigated ridiculousness of its core belief that Jesus suffered intense pain and died for everyone's sins (stupidity).

That being said I could see myself reading the Bible in order to rewrite it to bring out its underlying Light of God and absolutely eliminate any association to Jesus or God suffering and grieving about what mankind does or does not do. I would do that, for example, by replacing the word faith with fun, feeling good, or love since those are the essence of the God and Heaven. I would also replace the word sin with the word stupidity. I have started in that direction without mentioning the Bible in my last post Melting into Bliss Like Jesus on the Cross. I am keenly interested to get your thoughts on that post and the question I conclude it with.

What version of the Bible do you recommend and would you have any interest in helping re-translate it with me?? You seem to be a diplomatic soul. Dose Obama and Clinton know about you?

I would like to contribute a couple of thoughts if I may.

I've read through a lot of your work; its astounding (at least in my mind) how many specific things (for lack of a better word picture) you bring to the table that are true. Especially in light of the admission that you don't read the bible (much if at all). That is truly amazing.

With that said, your presentation would probably be received my many who profess Christianity if it were translated into language that many of them understood - cultural language, like for instance 'churchish', or the secret little vernacular that church folks talk in...

Many of the things you are saying have value - 'religion', which I propose is the enemy of true relationship with Christ, has clouded many and is the real piper that seems to create hords of sheeple willing to blindly follow - not real relationship with someone who is still alive...

You know; I've found that many who bash the Bible have never read it. Its ashame, because if one truly wants to know Jesus, the best way to get to know him is the time spent reading the Bible. I won't argue the validity of the particular words, sentences, differences in times and culture, much of what you folks have said may be true - but it is the most valuable insight into who Jesus was and is on the planet - I would recommend that you and your readers soften your criticism of the process of how we got it and just simply read it - its very insightful...

Last thing I promise.. :) Jesus couldn't be killed by a cross! He was God just as much as he was man. He willingly gave up his spirit in the fullness of time - and only remained in the grave for 3 days - he is now risen from the dead and very much alive. Again, you are so close to being onto something awesome, just figured I'd try and encourage you to keep looking deeper - I believe you'll find more if you keep looking... ;) Please don't take what I said as demeaning or arrogant, I didn't mean it that way - I'm excited about what I read here, just typing real fast... ;)_ MM

Thanks for your deeply thoughtful comment Rev Russ. My post entitled Why Christian Bleepings Hit the Fan asks the question: How sacred or valid is the modern Bible? "... because of the fact that stories can change significantly from just one person to another, let alone the Bible story, told with layers of symbolism, translated/interpreted over and over, from a hard to imagine culture 2000 years ago."

Yes, Jesus suffered many physical wounds, the last being a spear head through His heart. Nail holes in His wrists and feet didn't weaken Him and I imagine he told his killers if you want me to die you need to stop my heart from beating.

The translated/interpreted Greed word for suffer probably has different connotations like our English, which has the connotations: "to endure death, pain, or distress" as well as: "to put up with especially as inevitable or unavoidable". So suffer means both feeling pain and putting up with some kind of unavoidable loss. Which meaning was Jesus using of the translated/interpreted Greek word?

And again at the beginning of this post my question to modern Christianity is why and how would Jesus not automatically save Himself from suffering pain as He did with others many times during His public life??? He parted the Red Sea and walked on water, He cured leprosy, the blind, and produced bread and fish out of thin air.

I propose that an unbiased interpretation of the original Bible manuscript could find Jesus letting His Apostles know that he was to fulfill the prophesy of suffering and dying but there was no way He would feel pain. I just had my wisdom teeth surgically removed and my dentist gave me an injection, a tablet and laughing gas so I would not feel any pain. It worked. Jesus in His time could not talk about endorphins as no one new anything about them, but He knew the functioning of the human body made in God's image could produce endorphins as well as an infinity of other biochemicals. Modern Christianity and you are not much caring about what it means for human life/physiology to be made in God's image. For more on how I'm exploring humanity being made in God's image click painkilling biochemistry in my tag cloud on the left, and read Dear World Family, Funology Foundation, and The Art and Science of Funology pages found at the very top of my blog.

I'm prophesying Christianity will soon realize that Jesus' life, crucifixion and resurrection was a demonstration of what being made in the image of God means; and that the ridiculousness of suffering to pay a price for everyone's wrong doing was the absolute last thing He wanted His crucifixion to be interpreted as. Furthermore, God cannot suffer and therefore doesn't grieve about the wrong doing of humanity. God's greatest gift to us is free will, and when we choose to do something wrong, which we will know is wrong by the pain that we feel, we are only hurting ourselves.

With Christmas close at hand, suffering Jesus almost disappears unless you go to Church and see him hanging on the Cross. My goal is before Easter to get in front of Christian leaders and agree on a new meaning for it like because we are made in the image of God joy is certain and death is optional.

Interesting take, though I respectfully disagree. If Jesus didn't suffer, what do you make of all his statements in the Gospels that in fact he did suffer and that he was supposed to suffer? Was he lying to and tricking everyone, i.e. "I'll tell everyone I'm going to suffer but in fact, it'll actually be pretty awesome"? Furthermore, from what source are you drawing this idea that Jesus was able to "produce endorphins" to kill the pain with "biochemistry hundreds of times more powerful than morphine?" I'm not trying to attack you, just trying to better understand where you're coming from and what you're basing this on. If you cover it in another post or somewhere else on this blog, you certainly don't need to restate yourself but can just point me in the right direction.

From my perspective, a non-suffering Jesus brings me no comfort because He's no longer human at all and has no connection to what I go through in this life nor would he, through his death, have taken my place. If he didn't need to suffer, why did he need to die? Why not just pull a magic trick with that one too? It's an issue of how you understand the two natures of Christ, I guess.

Thank you Matt for your comment. But it's disappointing that, apart from upside down and Jesus' name, what you say doesn't relate to anything in this post.

We are talking about the core Christian belief that Jesus suffered on the Cross is upside down. Jesus did turn the suffering world upside down with his miracles to end suffering every time he encountered it.

So in this post, I am asking first: How can Christianity overlook the fact that it's impossible for God to suffer??? And moreover, why and how would Jesus ever stop performing miracles and suffer himself???

Also see my blog's About page for more detail on how I arrived at the conclusion that the central Christian belief that Jesus suffered on the Cross is upside down.
